Pentecost: A Charge to Religious Liberals

Jay Noble

The Pentecost story relates a miracle by which the subjects spoke in one language and were heard and understood by members of other language groups each in their own dialect. We are charged with the task of speaking to our contemporaries in language and symbols which are similarly intelligible.

Summer Reading

Ruth Semrau

Welcome to the joy of the written word, but be warned! Books tamper with your basic natural ignorance. This is our twice-annual book sharing program. If you wish to share a brief review of a book, please let Ruth know. We will have time for approximately 15 book reviews, each about 2 minutes in length.

Jewish Text Study Part 2: Jewish Story-Telling

Rabbi Neal Katz

Our speaker will offer another text study dealing with the literature of the midrash. Midrash is a genre of Jewish literature that interprets biblical text and allows the ancient rabbis to promote their own ideologies. It is a progressive literature and a powerful tool in spiritual growth. The talk-back will be lively.

Summer Solstice Celebration

Holly Carlson

Come and celebrate the longest day and the shortest night of the year. Now that the long, hard winter is finally past, welcome the long days and the warmth of summer. To the ancients, Summer Solstice was a time of the blooming, growing, and coming into fullness. They celebrated with bonfires, singing and dancing. To preserve the chapel, we’ll celebrate with songs and readings that bring us to a deeper understanding. This is a time to celebrate the growth of the season, the seeds that were planted in the earth and the seeds that are planted in our souls. This is a time for renewal
