Water Communion Service Barbara Cavin On September 10th, I will lead the water communion service at our Fellowship. This service has been part of the Unitarian tradition for many years. At some time during the service, attendees are invited to bring a vial of water to the front of the meeting hall and pour it into a larger container of water. This symbolizes the unit of our community. When this service was originally established, Unitarians traditionally conducted the service in the fall after summer vacation. People were invited to pour symbolic water from their summer vacation spots into the larger container while briefly describing where the water came from. This year we will again celebrate the significance of water in our lives, but because water is so much more to us than a representation of travels, and because we all want to join in the symbolic act of coming together again, I invite anyone to bring water. The water can be poured into the common vessel silently or with an explanation of its importance. After the service, the common container of water will be given to our dogwood tree in order to continue the life it symbolizes. Please join me in this special tradition. Circle Suppers Nourishing the Spirit Sheila McElroy Circle suppers bring friends, newcomers, and members together bimonthly to share food and get acquainted. Hosts/hostess will call their guests early in the month to decide who brings what. The host will provide the main dish and others will bring appetizers, bread, side dishes, and dessert. You can have elegant suppers around one table or divide into several rooms to eat. Or if you have a small home, like I do, you may decide to have your dinner at the UFL building. (I'll open the door.) Host/hostess will set the date for the dinner and contact guests. You don't have to be a host/hostess. There is lots of room so please contact me if you would like to join this group beginning this month

ALPINE ROAD CONCERT Featuring Carla Ulbrich - August 11, 2006 The first official Alpine Road Concert was a huge success. Everyone raved about the show and the refreshments. Jack and Sheila are committed to bringing excellent entertainment to the greater Longview community and raising awareness of the UFL in the community. According to Jessica, "What a concert it was! The most surprising thing was how many of the people I had never seen before. How exciting to have so many new-comers!! So many of her routines had components we could all identify with. Everyone just laughed and laughed. Just the titles of her songs gave you a good idea of her sense of humor. Toasted Chicken Sandwich ... Would You Rather Be Paid? ... The Guy Who Changes the Light Bulbs ... I'll Have To Kill You Now (because of getting carried away and telling too much of your life story to a friend). For me, her funniest song was The Prednisone Song. So many of the women in the audience have had to take that drug, at one time or another, that she really got a good laugh with that one.If the volume of the laughter was any indication, and surely it had to be, everyone had a wonderful time. It was such a treat to get to listen to someone who had written so many humorous songs. We will probably have an even larger crowd next month! In addition to the music and humor, there was an impressive array of tempting food. We had several super sales persons who made it impossible to resist the bounty that was there
Darren Groce treats his children, Rachel and Matthew to some refreshments at the concert Durren and Jonna also attended the concert and Jonna deemed it one of the best shows she's ever seen. "I laughed so hard I had mascara running down my face (and I'd been deadly tired and in a blue mood all day). I haven't had that much fun in years. She was a dead-on comedian and satirist, but her musical talent easily equaled her ability to poke fun at herself and the situations of life we all experience. Spending the evening with her, and buying two of her CDs, will make all those times easier to laugh through! Martha and Philip were at the concert and, when asked about the evening, Martha replied: "Please mention that we had wonderful ... continued on Page 4 ... see Concert |
