September Programs

September 3rd

Still Time For Summer Reading!

Ruth Semrau

This program was originally scheduled for July, the traditional midsummer. However, this year, mid-summer has been post- poned to September, as every- one has noticed. Librarian Ruth Semrau will do the Book Talk, reviewing titles of interest to our diverse group, with invited guests to provide additional book spice.

September 10th

Water Communion

Barbara Cavin

The congregation is invited to bring a sample of water from their travels or water that has other significance for them. All of the samples are poured into a common bowl or vase to signify coming together again. It's a way of symbolizing that many are one, and a way of getting reacquainted.

September 17th

The First UU Principle

Richard Parrish

Although one of the seven principles of Unitarian-Universalism is a belief "in the inherent worth and dignity of every person," the notion may be more of a goal than a genuinely held and acted-on belief. Richard's talk will focus on (1) how some, if not all, Unitarians don't fulfill the principle (including Richard, as he hurriedly and readily admits), and how perhaps it's not just reality but actually a necessity not to; and (2) how society sometimes allows and accepts unworthiness instead of supporting and fostering what is worthy. Richard’s presentation will include suggestions for positive changes.

September 24th

Hispanic Heritage

Jose Sanchez

September has been designated as Hispanic Heritage Month, thus providing an opportunity to recognize, respect and understand the positive contributions to society made by Hispanic individuals.
