U F L HOSTS CONCERT

I asked Julie to cover the fundraising event that was held at the Fellowship on Saturday, April 29th because I would not be able to attend it. Julie said OK, but not to expect much because she is not "the reporter type." I say she's up for the Pulitzer for this one!

the therapy sisters: maurine and lisa

Jack McElroy manned the entrance taking money and dispensing pill bottles filled with rice to use as shakers when the urge would strike to add a little rhythm to the sisters' singing. Everyone also got to pick a sticker to wear promoting their hidden agenda/inner child feelings at the moment (I picked "vaginal american"). Songs ranged from the political ("george don't know jack about jesus") to peculiar ("stalker") to inspirational ("nkosi").

They sang a nice set; we had an intermission filled with food, drink and talk, then another set.

                                                                 attendance: around 40

                                CHILDREN'S R E
Stories are an excellent way to teach children about the UU principles. Here is a list of children's books that do an excellent job of illustrating the third principle, "Acceptance of one another and encouragement of spiritual growth in our congregations" or, as the children's R E teacher would say to them, "We believe that we should accept one another and keep on learning together."

.SWUUSI

SouthWest Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute

Planning a summer vacation and don't know where to go? Book a week at Lake Texoma and attend the Southwest Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute. Ask any of us who have gone and we'll tell you, "You're going to have a great time." There are things to do for the whole family.

This year's SWUUSI is scheduled for July 24 - 29 at Lake Texoma Resort. Every year, about 500 UU's of all ages from around the Southwest District get together for a relaxed week of workshops, theme speakers, fun, music, worship, ritual, and connectedness. The event has been ongoing for over 35 years. Many people return every year to renew, relax, meet old friends, and make new ones. Do a lot, or do a little; choose workshops and activities that suit your interests and energy level.

Congratulations Upon Graduation

Erika Blakely

Congratulations to Durrell and Robert on their recent academic accomplishments. They are now looking forward to re-merging their lives and entering into something resembling normalcy, or at least stability.

At the Commencement ceremony, Durrell was also awarded Auburn Seminary's Maxwell Fellowship for Excellence for Future Service in Parish Ministry. Auburn is a Presbyterian institution affiliated with Union Theological Seminary.

In 2005, Durrell was awarded by the faculty of UTS The Hudnut Award for Best Preparation for the Preaching Ministry.

Prior to enrolling at Union Theological Seminary, Durrell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Henderson State University in 1990 and a Master of Arts degree from Goddard College in 2003. He completed his initial theological training for ordination from the Samaritan Institute of Religious Studies (1996).
