PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY MESSAGE

Huey Mitchell

On June 5th I accepted the position of President of the Board. I will do my best to live up to your hopes and expectations.

Where do we go from here? My vision is to look to our future. We want a future that includes membership growth while generating new perspectives and diverse thoughts. We need to find ways to make our presence well known in the community. We need to find ways to let people know what we are about and what it means to be a Unitarian. Stay alert for ways to accomplish these goals. Bring me your ideas and we will work together to implement them.

Our new building has brought new challenges and responsibilities in budgeting, bookkeeping, building and grounds maintenance, and housekeeping. It has also brought the ability to hold special interest and fund raising events. Also, we would like to have a food service area. That will require some remodeling. I am getting quotes from builders.

This is a growing period in our Fellowship. Growth demands adaptation and change as well as the wisdom to preserve what is worthwhile and precious. I was able to accept the position of Board President only because I knew there is a pool of talent and generosity in this Fellowship that will support my efforts to make our Fellowship a spiritual center for East Texas.
