Dear UFL Members and Friends,
Thank you so very much for the lovely plaque given to me for my years of service as bookkeeper for our Fellowship. I took my duties very seriously and was never once tempted to take off for Las Vegas on a Monday morning. (In the earlier years there wasn't much of an incentive, anyway.) I can think of many people who deserve plaques, especially all of the hard-working officers we have had through the years. this does not mean, however, that I am going to give them mine. I appreciate it too much. Love to you all, Helen Ausman
Presented to Helen Ausman UFL Founding Member 1984 Bookkeeper 1994-2005 With love and appreciation from UFL Members & Friends
UFL LIBRARY AND BOOK NOOK Sheila McElroy Thanks to Karen Pantzer the UFL Library and the Book Nook are in capable hands. Karen has volunteered to undertake the task of sorting and keeping track of our library books. She has a few ideas she wants to implement so look forward to an updated reading area. The Book Nook contains donated books for sale. There are a variety of titles, fiction and nonfiction. The price is right so don't miss perusing the bookcase. If you have books, CDs or movies to donate contact Karen. Donations will be added to the UFL general fund. If a number of items accumulate a UFL book sale will be organized. If you'd like to help Karen just let her know. Thanks, Karen, for helping out in an area we all care about.

Our Musical Sunday Well, all I can say is, you had to be there! It was extraordinary!! People clapped and cheered, whistled and stomped and took pictures like paparazzi. One after another, members and friends took the stage, or sat at the piano, to share their musical talents. Bob Winters acted as our genial and humorous emcee after he got us oriented with a reading entitled Theater by Raymond Caldwell. (Just so we would all know what we were doing there.)
Helen set our toes to tapping with a polka played on her accordion; Michael Todd played some Mozart magnificently on the piano; Morgan and Mandy harmonized in their luscious and evocative vocal duet of A Life Uncommon; Linda swept us off our feet with her rendition of Albeniz's Tango in D; Durren and Jonna brought back memories of their performing days with Secure Yourself (Indigo Girls), a vocal duet accompanied by Durren on guitar; Ross (known as "Todd" to Bob) treated us to some music by Handel with his violin; Betty put us in touch with our spirituality with her beautiful singing of Precious Lord, Take My Hand; and Richard brought the program to a grand finale with his virtuoso piano performance of the "Finale" section from the Christmas cantata, Born a King, by John Peterson. Then, to bring us all into spiritual musical harmony, Betty and Jonna taught us a song we could sing together: Building Bridges. And not only did we sing together, we sang "a round." As Betty noted, if we had known about this song earlier it would have been perfect for the Longview Interfaith Council's Fall Forum. As people enjoyed a last bit of coffee and pastries or made plans to meet for lunch, I heard comments about the service. "This was the best service we ever had!" "I never knew we had so much talent in this Fellowship!" "This was such a great change from listening to speakers." "We should do this more often." "I felt such a deep feeling of community; of connection." Do check out our website for pictures of all our talented performers. During this momentous year, we have already welcomed six new members: Richard, Louise, Jonna, Al, Janet, and Karen. Over the past ten months we have accomplished a lot, but we still have a couple of major projects to focus on during the coming year. We will be working on completing a food service area and R E classrooms
Thanks to you all for the support you provide, making my job so much easier. Huey |
