What I found out was that Space (with a capitol S) is for everybody! We spent the week learning the history of the U.S. Space program as well as cutting edge information from some really revved up Hubble scientists. We built rockets and hot air balloons, launched film canisters and pretended to be rescued from oceanic helicopter crashes. We met German rocket scientists, pondered the infinite nature of the universe and stepped solidly back into childhood as we made-believe we were members of the teams of amazing people who navigate Space on a daily basis. It was a grown up version of my friend Marsha's playhouse with a genuine doorbell and real electric lights. The real focus of the week was to help teachers learn new ways to turn kids on to learning. This would be Happy's first attempt at kayaking and she was determined to give it her best shot even though she was sure that she would probably capsize and end up in the lake. Sky kept telling her it was too much fun to miss even if she did end up in the water, so Happy went along with the program. Besides, she had brought a change of clothes
