from page 2 ... Spain

One morning we walked into the closest village, Barco de la Avilia (2km away) for a tour, souvenir buying (and of course, drinking.)

The Spaniards were fantastic and it was such a gift watching them blossom over a week's time. They (or their company) paid about $2200 for their week (subsidizing the Anglos as we paid nothing).

No subjects were off limits, so conversation ranged over every imaginable topic. And to a person, they were anti Bush (as were most all the Anglos I talked to). Their English was good enough that you could tell they were thinking in English but their grammar/ tenses/ pronunciation were the pits. It often took awhile but I always figured out what they were trying to say.

There were Anglos from the USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Belgium, and Singapore so talking to all of them was also incredible. All the younger participants stayed up 'til at least 2, and oftentimes 4 am, drinking. But I never saw any hangovers and everyone was bright and chipper at at breakfast (meals were always 2 Spaniards and 2 Anglos). I was in bed by 1 every night at a reasonable hour. :-) The food was good and the wine free flowing at meals. Many tears were shed at the closing ceremony as new found friends for life said good bye.
