November Programs November 7th Religious Baggage Mary Andrews Sometimes the pain or sense of betrayal in religion is not so much about something bad that happened, as about something wonderful that was supposed to happen, and never did. The question to ask ourselves about religious baggage is whether or not the past is still governing our spiritual life. An adaptation of a sermon by Rev. Francesca Hughes of Horizon UU Church.
November 14th The Wisdom of Contraries Rev. Dr. Lynn Bauman An exploration of the symbolic wisdom of complimen - tarity as a pathway of wisdom in both the ancient and modern world. We live in a sea of opposites -- this is our world and our spiritual pilgrimage -- to understand and work with the nature of this reality. Our work will be to learn the wisdom that knows both the reality and how to live it . November 21st Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness Donna McCann This phrase enumerating the 'unalienable' rights bestowed by our creator, which appears early on in the Declaration of Independence, is often quoted by those of us who want to do our own thing. Oddly enough, this idea was not carried forth in its full scope into the Constitution, which is the basis of the laws of our land. We will explore the possible interpretations of the three unalienable rights, and whether they are in fact practiced in our society.
November 28 Thanksgiving Austin Pennington, Becca Strine, Happy King We have so much in life to be thankful for. Some of our newest members will use this opportunity to share their joys with us.
