December Programs December 5th Life's Choices Jo Ann Porterfield, Facilitator Six women reflect on how the choices they have made at various times in their lives have contributed to where they find themselves today. Group ages range from 20's to 60's; work experiences extend from beginning jobs to retirement. December 12th Existentialism As a Theory of Psychology And As a Therapy Method Sherrie Kircus I was not attracted to the Existentialist philosophers when I was an undergraduate, but as a much older person, a grad student in psychology, and a longtime Unitarian, I'm very drawn to the honesty of Existentialism as a way to look at psychology. It seems to me to be Unitarian thinking. We'll look at the value of honesty in living the good life. December 19th Is Today's Generation Missing the Bigger Picture? Bryan Parker The kids of my generation neglect societal obligations for personal fulfillment. Our American society teaches us to serve ourselves first, and its structure masks the severity of social problems. (Bryan is in his final year of studies to become an English teacher.) December 26th The Goddess, Non-Theists, and Other Strange Bedfellows Durrell Watkins A look at St. Mary as a goddess figure that has practical use for agnostics, skeptics, and other liberal religious types. An intriguing presentation that will be both safe and stimulating for all religious liberals. It will fit in nicely with the holiday season while being |
inclusive of people from various traditions
(and no particular tradition at all). GARAGE SALE FIRST ONE SO SUCCESSFUL WE'RE GOING TO DO IT AGAIN!!! Dear UU Members and Friends, The UFL Garage Sale exceeded our wildest expectations. The Fellowship raised $1,038.00 for the Building Fund in about five hours that Saturday. The stars seemed to line up for us. There were lots of helping hands, an amazing number of garage sale items, perfect weather, and never-ending traffic. I want to thank all the volunteers who helped price, arrange, sell, and the many more who donated items. I sincerely apologize if I left anyone out. Volunteers: Nell Armstrong & niece, Helen Ausman, Blakelys, Herberts, Mitchells, Marolen Mullinax, Naders, Nobles, Rileys, Tina Rushing, Barbara Cavin, Beecher Threatt & Michael, and special thanks to Julie Hart who took care of the ad, garage sale signs, and was a superb cashier all morning long. What a team!!! Thanks again for making this possible. Even though I H A T E having garage sales, we must not pass up the opportunity to take advantage of our current location to raise money that can be applied to the Building Fund. Consequently, we'll try again on Saturday, December 4th from 8:00 a.m. 'til noon. I wouldn't dream of asking those who helped so diligently this last weekend to participate again, unless they have other items to contribute or had so much fun that they wouldn't want to miss this "social." Paul and I hardly skimmed the surface at our house, and some of Saturday's participants made similar statements. Hopefully the December garage sale will give those a chance to participate who didn't have enough time to gather items for the last sale. Thank you, again, for all your generosity, Erika Blakely
