"As the daughter of a deacon in a small Baptist Church, I turned away from the church early in life.  A spiritual need led me to the Episcopal tradition where I felt the first stirrings of anger not only at what the fundamentalists have done to Christianity, but also at what Christianity has done to the teachings of Jesus."

UFL Housekeeping

Our Fellowship is small, and we depend on each other to care for our building and to provide coffee and snacks before programs on Sunday mornings.
In the spirit of cooperation, we are continuing this year to set up a schedule for service. If the assigned month is not convenient, please trade with someone.
If your name was overlooked, or you would like to have your name taken off the schedule, please contact Erika Blakely at 903.297.5393, or e-mail:  erika76@juno.com.
Lists of volunteers for 2004 and things to do are on the following page.

This quote comes from Friedrich Nietzsche's novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None.  This novel opens with the old hermit and prophet Zarathustra's attempt to deal with our culture's response to the "death of God."  The so-called "doctrine of the Overman" constitutes Zarathustra's attempt to redirect the ensuing sense of meaninglessness that comes with the absence of God toward a new understanding that stresses a new reason for our existence, but also our need to recover our love for the earth and our need to recover our love for one another. I will not only explain the hope expressed in this sentiment, but the problem that Zarathustra eventually found with it as well.

Christmas is a central holy day in the UU liturgical calendar.  But for those of us who are not specifically Christian, what is it we're so excited about celebrating?

What better way to wrap up the year than indulging in one final burst of sinful foods before New Year's resolutions.  Jerry and Sherry have offered again to spoil the Fellowship with their delectable pancakes and all the trimmings.  It's a great time to fellowship and introduce new friends and family visiting from out-of-town.
